When importing bulk data into IMMS, there are a few basic aspects and requirements that will apply to all Import scenarios.
Import Button
Where bulk data import is allowed in IMMS, the corresponding view will display an button at the very top of the view window. The Import button will provide a drop-down menu with multiple options, which include “Import…”, “Pending”, “Show Completed”, and in some cases, "Files".
- Import… - The “Import…” option will specify the record type associated with the view from which the Import button was selected (e.g., “Import Assets”, “Import Asset models”, “Import System Elements”). This option will open the applicable Import form.
- Pending – The "Pending" option will display Pending Imports. Pending Imports are typically large bulk-data ingests that may take an extended period of time to complete.
- Show Completed – The "Show Completed" option will display data imports that have completed successfully and provide a link to the successfully imported data file.
- Files - The "Files" option allows Users to import Custom Field files.
Import Data File Requirements
Data to be imported into IMMS must be listed in a CSV file with properly formatted column headers and all required data fields populated.
The first column of the CSV file will always be the “Action” column which specifies the desired import action for each entry. For each line in the CSV file, the value will either be “CREATE” or “UPDATE” depending on whether the line creates a new record or updates an existing record.
There are certain required data columns for each different IMMS Import scenario, as detailed in the sections that follow. Additionally, there are a number of optional data columns which can be included in each data file.
Data File Exceptions
When importing a data (i.e., CSV) file, IMMS will scan the entire data file for errors. If any such exceptions are found within the data, IMMS will reject the Import in its entirety. When errors are detected in the data file, IMMS will alert you of line-by-line exceptions. All exceptions must be corrected in the data file before an Import can be completed successfully.
Note: With large Import data files, IMMS will only alert you of a maximum of 100 exceptions at once. Multiple Import attempts may be required to clear all exceptions.
Import Activity Records
Just as IMMS tracks manual data creation and updates, each data entry via the Import feature is logged against each created or updated data record. Logs are accessible via the "Updates" section of the impacted record's details panel.
