This article provides guidance on the following topics related to the Asset Models dictionary:

Creating Asset Models

Access the Main Menu from the top-level navigation toolbar.
Select Manage Models from the Materials Management stack.
1. This opens the Manage Models view (i.e., Asset Models dictionary).
Select the New button in the grid commands at the top of the viewing pane.
1. This opens the New Model form.
Populate form fields with all information you have in hand for the Asset Model.
1. Note: required fields are marked with an asterisk ( * ) and include:
  1. Manufacturer - See Manufacturers and Vendors for information and guidance.
  2. Type - Select the appropriate type from the Asset/Material Types dictionary. See Asset/Material Types for additional information/guidance.
  3. Model Name
2. Optional fields should be completed if the information is available
  1. UPC/SKU#
  2. Lifetime (hrs) - See the About Model Lifetime section below for additional information and guidance.
  3. Sales details
  4. End of support - Date when the Manufacturer stops supporting the Model, typically a few years after the Model is discontinued.
  5. Warranty (months) - See the About Model Warranty section below for additional information guidance.
  6. Average price
  7. Weight
  8. Dimensions
  9. Stock Keeping Details
  10. Description
Select the OK button once known details are populated.
The newly created Model will now appear within the instance's Asset Models dictionary.

InfraLink manages two attributes related to an Asset's lifetime:

Service Lifetime - The Service Lifetime is defined by the Manufacturer and represents the typical lifetime of an Asset Model in terms of active use. Service Lifetime is calculated only for Trackable Assets, and the calculation includes only the time when an Asset is in the Deployed status. In InfraLink, this lifetime value is set and tracked in hours.
Useful Lifetime - The Useful Lifetime is defined by the Manufacturer and represents the typical age of an Asset before the Asset performance/quality will likely degrade. The Useful Lifetime calculation continues regardless of the Asset Status (i.e., whether it is installed or in inventory.) In InfraLink, the useful lifetime value is set and tracked in hours.
- Note: The calculation, per Asset, of Useful Lifetime starts on:
  - Asset purchase date; or the
  - Asset created date if the Asset Purchase date is not set.

Note: InfraLink applies a default setting for Asset Useful Lifetime and Service Lifetime, which is 5 years. This setting can be modified at the instance level (i.e., change to application.properties). Contact the InfraLink Helpdesk to request this change.

Defining the Warranty duration, in months, per Asset Model allows for the automatic calculation of Warranty End Dates on individual Assets of that particular Model.

Warranty duration information is defined at Asset Model level and then propagates down on all Assets of that particular Asset Model. (Exception: Model-defined Warranty information applies unless Warranty duration information was already set for an existing Asset.)

InfraLink calculates the Warranty end date based on the Warranty start date for each Asset and the Warranty duration.

The Warranty start date is the:

Asset Purchase date, or the
Asset Creation date, if the Asset Purchase date is not set.

Note: The Asset Warranty start and end dates, calculated per the Asset Model Warranty duration definition, can be overwritten at the individual Asset level, if needed.

Editing Asset Models

Access the Main Menu from the top-level navigation toolbar.
Select Manage Models from the Materials Management stack.
1. This opens the Manage Models view (i.e., Asset Models dictionary).
From the Manage Models grid view, select the desired Asset Model.
Select the Edit button in the grid commands at the top of the viewing pane.
1. This opens the Edit Model form.
Modify form fields based on your needs.
Select OK in the bottom right corner of the form.
