System Elements, representing functional devices, are integral to Job Connect Construction Mode, as they are the basis for all Drawings, Systems, and Projects. As System Elements are transitioned and progressed through their workflow, so is the drawing and in turn the project itself. Users, with adequate permissions, will be allowed to update and status System Elements in the Construction Mode UI. The following information will help Users to perform updates (i.e., status transitions or information changes) to System Elements from the Item List View as well as individual System Element Details Panel

This article focuses on the following topics related to System Element management in Construction Mode.

Updating System Element Status


Users may wish to progress System Elements through their assigned life cycles. JCC only allows Users to update the System Element Status according to allowed transitions, as defined by the System Element Life Cycle. Statusing System Elements can be done individually (from a System Element details panel or from the Item List View) or in bulk (from the Item List view) depending on a User's needs. 

Whether updating the System Element details or status, these updates are initiated from the Item List View (JCC)Users may update one System Element or multiple System Elements depending on the necessity. The various means by which to perform these System Element updates are detailed below.

System Element Status Transitions from the Item List View

Updating One System Element

  1. Navigate to a drawing by selecting one from the Drawing Selector View (JCC).
  2. Select a System Element using the selection circle to the left of the System Element OR select the System Element by quickly tapping on it in the drawing. 
  3. Tap on "Update Status" at the bottom of the Status Panel.
  4.  This will open the Status Update window showing four fields, three of which are necessary for System Element status transitions: 
    1. Items: This field will show the amount of System Element(s) selected.
    2. Tasks: This field will show if there are any tasks to be completed for the associated System Element.
      1. Black tasks follow the workflow the System Element is associated with. 
      2. Selecting a grey task will prompt the "Exceptions" window to open which requires a User to acknowledge they are working out of the workflow.
    3. Milestones: This field will show the viable status transitions for a System Element.
      1. Black milestones follow the workflow the System Element is associated with. 
      2. Selecting a grey milestone will prompt the "Exceptions" window to open which requires a User to acknowledge they are working out of the workflow.
    4. Update: See _InsertSection_ for instructions on how to update information without transitioning a System Element.
  5. Tap Done to complete the status transition.

Bulk Updating System Elements

Bulk updating System Elements allows a User to transition System Elements to new statuses without creating individual updates for each System Element. This saves time and ensures accuracy when updating System Elements. 

  1. Navigate to a drawing by selecting one from the Drawing Selector View (JCC).
  2. Use your preferred method to select System Elements, whether that's the lasso  at the bottom of the window or the selection icons to the left of System elements, to select a group of System Elements. 
  3. Tap on "Update Status" at the bottom of the Status Item List panel. 
  4. This will open the Status Update window showing four fields: 
    1. Items: This field will show the amount of System Element(s) selected.
    2. Tasks: This field will show if there are any tasks to be completed for the associated System Element.
      1. Black tasks follow the workflow the System Element is associated with. 
      2. Selecting a grey task will prompt the "Exceptions" window to open which requires a User to acknowledge they are working out of the workflow.
    3. Milestones: This field will show the viable status transitions for a System Element.

  5. Selecting Tasks or Milestones will open the "Update Details" form prompting a User to provide a brief comment for the bulk update operation. 
  6. Tap Done to complete the status transitions.

System Element Status Transitions from the System Element Details Panel

Updating One System Element

  1. Navigate to a System Element Details Panel by selecting the chevron to the right of the System Element in the Item List View OR by long tapping a System Element on the drawing.
  2. The next viable status transition (depicted as a blue widget) will be available under the Pending Work section. 
  3. A form required for that status transition will open, named according to the System Element being updated.
  4. Complete the form as needed.
  5. Tap the status name in the top right corner of the window to complete the status transition. 

Updating System Element Information


Users may wish to update the details (e.g., Custom Fields) associated with a System Element without changing the System Element's current status.

Updating System Element(s) from the Item List View

Updating ONE System Element 

  1. Update: This field will allow a User to "Update information without changing status". 
    1. Updating without changing the System Element(s) status allows a User to edit Custom Fields as well as details concerning the System Element. 
    2. Selecting this field will open the "Select for Update" form for a User to select their desired fields. Tap next and update the fields selected. Then tap Done. 

Bulk Updating System Elements 

When bulk updating System Elements without changing the status, the "Select for Update" form will only show fields common to all selected System Elements. Additionallyupdated information will be the same for ALL selected items. Any discrepancies will be overridden with this update.

  1. Update: This field will allow a User to "Update information without changing status". 
    1. Updating without changing the System Element(s) status allows a User to edit Custom Fields as well as details concerning the System Element. 
    2. Selecting this field will open the "Select for Update" form for a User to select their desired fields. Tap next and update the fields selected. Then tap Done.
